Management Accountant

This is a newly created opportunity for a hands-on Management Accountant to take full ownership of the finance function within a well-established SME business.

Working closely with the CEO and external accountants, you’ll step into a true standalone role where you will be solely responsible for the day-to-day finance operations, reporting, and commercial support across the business. This role will suit someone who thrives in a smaller business environment, enjoys autonomy, and is happy being hands-on.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparation of monthly financial reports including P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cashflow
• Weekly reporting across AP/AR, cashflow, and stock
• Managing month-end processes including journals, accruals, and reconciliations
• Cashflow forecasting and monitoring
• Budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling
• Providing commercial insights on margins, costs, and business performance
• Managing BAS, payroll tax, FBT, and compliance requirements
• Supporting year-end processes, audits, and external accountants
• Driving systems improvements across Xero and other evolving finance platforms
• Leveraging AI tools and technology to improve reporting, automation, and operational efficiencies
• Transitioning manual processes into scalable and efficient solutions
• Ad hoc reporting and partnering closely with leadership

About You

• CA/CPA qualified with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• 5+ years’ experience in a Management Accountant or similar role
• Strong Excel capability and advanced systems knowledge
• Highly tech-savvy with confidence using AI tools, finance software, and automation platforms
• Experience using Xero or similar accounting systems
• Comfortable operating in a standalone finance role with full ownership
• Hands-on, proactive, and commercially minded
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with stakeholders
• No ego — willing to roll up your sleeves and work across both strategic and transactional tasks
• Comfortable working within a smaller business and office environment

Nice to Have

• Experience within SMEs or high-growth businesses
• Exposure to system implementations and process improvement projects
• Experience working across multi-entity structures or foreign currency
